 |  | Charles Demuth (1883-1935)Charles Demuth was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1883. He studied at the Drexel Institute and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, both in Philadelphia, as well as in Paris at the Academies Colarossi and Julian. Demuth returned to New York in 1914 where his Modernist works caught the eye of Alfred Stieglitz. Demuth was an artist in constant evolution and his paintings encompassed a number of styles including Moderinst experiments, Cubism, Dada, and Precisionist painting for which he’s best known. His early works were bold figuratives, while the last years of his life his work turned to more personal floral, still lifes.
