 |  | Joseph Fleck (1892-1977)Joseph Fleck was born in Austria in 1892 and studied there at the Royal Academy of Fine Art. Fleck was called in to service in WW I and when his talents were discovered, transferred to Vienna to paint war heroes and government officials. In 1922 he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he found work in a stained glass factory owned by Tiffany & Co and became Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Intrigued by the work of the Taos area painters, Fleck settled in that city in 1934 remaining for 40 years. He’s best remembered for his time in Taos, where he painted the Southwest’s landscape and people.
