 |  | Lockwood de Forest (1850-1932)Lockwood de Forest was born in New York in 1850 where he studied with Frederic Church and James Hart. He was an avid traveler, visiting Egypt, Syria, Greece and India collecting crafts for U.S. museum collections. A member of the National Academy, de Forest settled in Santa Barbara in 1919 and painted there until his death in 1932. He is best remembered for his desertscapes and painting of the coast near his California studio.
