 |  | Richard Diebenkorn (1922-1993)Richard Diebenkorn was born in San Francisco in 1922 and studied art nearby at Stanford University. Following WW II, Diebenkorn lived in New Mexico, Illinois and ultimately Berkeley, California where he painted with David Park. Diebenkorn broke from Abstract Expressionism during the 1950’s beginning what would be known as the Bay Area Figurative School of painting which involved working outdoors, painting figures in brightly keyed landscapes as well as interiors. Returning again to abstraction, Diebenkorn began his most famous “Ocean Park” series of works in 1967.
