Victor Clyde Forsythe (1885-1962)

Victor Clyde Forsythe was born in Orange, California in 1885 and raised on a ranch in the Coachella Valley. He studied at the Los Angeles School of Art & Design and the Art Students League in New York. Staying on in New York, Forsythe took a job as a cartoonist that made him nationally famous. Following service in WW II designing war posters, Forsythe moved to California with Frank Tenney Johnson, with whom he’d co-found the Biltmore Art Galleries to showcase their paintings. Like Johnson, Forsythe was a master of the cowboy genre and was dedicated to the lore of the American West. Forsythe died in Pasadena in 1962.
