John Hubbard Rich

John Hubbard Rich was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1876. Following a stint as an illustrator, he attended the Art Students League in New York and the Boston Museum School, where he was awarded a scholarship to study in Europe. Upon his return to the U.S., Rich taught at the Groton School in New York before leaving for Los Angeles to found the Los Angeles School for Painting and Illustrating. He also held teaching positions at the Otis Institute and the University of Southern California (USC). He died in Los Angeles in 1954 and is remembered as a versatile artist painting portraits, still lifes, figures and florals.
